Timeout with Victor Erixon

Who are you? Let us know where you hail from and what you do.

Profilepic I’m Victor Erixon, and I’ve been designing for two years now. I currently work remotely for Articulate. I occasionally freelance for clients on the side of that.

What are you working on?

I’m currently working together with my colleagues on updating our entire brand and all of our products. And as I’m the only UI designer, that’s something keeping me very busy at the moment.

On the side of that I’m working for a company that is going to challenge Twitch in the video platform and community for gamers field.

Choose a favorite shot of yours. Tell us why it’s a favorite.

image

That’s a tricky one, I’m always loving the end product I’ve worked on. But I’ve this weird thing where I start to hate it after two weeks and I try to come up with something even better.

But my favorite has to be the Apple OS X redesign I did a few months ago. Not because it’s a solid redesign, but because of the eight-page discussion thread about it - most of the comments having an angry tone. I felt like I at least got people to care and talk about it. Even Khoi Vinh tweeted about it!

Tell us about your setup. What tools did you use to create the shot (e.g. hardware, software, pens, paper, blowtorch)?

image

I’m very simple when it comes to my setup. I see most designers having pretty decorated offices with multiple monitors. As I’m traveling much with my current job, I just need my 15” MacBook Retina and my Bose noise cancelling headphones. I normally work at home, in my office, at a café and even out in nature.

What’s not to like? Justin always has a very vibrant style that really attracts my attention. The coloring, the highlights and shadow details are just out of this world.

Last night Dan attended the New Orleans Dribbble Meetup at Cafe du Monde and today he spoke at CSS Dev Conf 2014. (Banner ad by conference organizer Christopher Schmitt above left.)

Back at HQ, we introduced the Charcoal Gameplan Notebook and took a Timeout with Victor Erixon. (Charcoal Gameplan Notebook center. Victor’s Apple OS Montauk right.)

Finally, September Dribbble Meetup numbers are in. 700 people attended 17 meetups in 8 countries. Additionally, we held “alternative” meetups at Bartfest in Spokane and at the National Poster Retrospecticus in Pawtucket, plus bought pizza for Refresh Boston's September Event.

ATX Dribbble didn’t have time to take a good photo, but they did have time to make FART ART. Dribbble Meetups … they’re a gas! (Just teasing you, Austin. We love you, and our kids love your f-art.) Photo credit: Sam Kapila.

Dublin, Ireland, September 25

No photo from Dublin. They have a good excuse: They’re gearing up to celebrate their 1-year Dublin Dribbble Meetup-versary! More info. forthcoming.

Seattle, Washington, September 25

Good times. No pictures. (Sense a theme this week?) Huge thanks to Facebook for hosting, and to organizers Mike Finch, Jeremy Loughnot, and Marissa McCombs. Special shout-out to Marissa, who helped us mere days before her wedding.

Dhaka, Bangladesh, September 27

image

From organizer Nuruzzaman Sheikh: “We wanted to arrange a friendly Dribbble Meetup so we could spend some time together, share some working experiences, our backgrounds and journey in this fabulous field: Designing. And we really spent a good and warming 3 hours together, having some Chinese dishes at one of the interesting auto-rotating restaurants in town. We’ve a relatively small amount of Dribbblers and many of them lives outside of the capital. One of the designers attended the meetup from outside the capital and he sacrificed two days of time for the meetup. In short it was really a fun meetup and all of us agreed to arrange something like this in more bigger way in the coming year.”

Many thanks to Nuruzzaman and his fellow organizers Tanveer Junayed and Abdus Salam, as well as everyone who attended. Extra-special thanks to Abdus, who traveled one day each way to get to/from the meetup. We appreciate the dedication!

Timeout with Barthelemy Chalvet

Who are you? Let us know where you hail from and what you do.

C24da46e67cbd62246e5a006a7c53c98 I’m Barthelemy Chalvet, a French webdesigner based in Paris. I’m founder of AgenceMe and lead designer at Xola.com. AgenceMe is a small agency created 3 years ago and it’s composed of three people, Marine/Designer, Florent/Front Developer, and I. I also created two companies with my awesome team CodeNgo: Sponseasy.com (a sponsorhip deck builder) and Clapp (a new way to create and join short story movies with your friends or even total strangers. )

What are you working on?

Currently I’m working on new tools and themes for Wordpress software. For a few months we’ve stayed focused on improving our theme and I can say, it was challenging. Since the theme is launching, we’re working on new amazing plugins for this theme, I can just say it will be really cool to use. It was fun to create many different layouts and styles with the same software, it’s incredible all you can do.

Choose a favorite shot of yours. Tell us why it’s a favorite.

image

Gravedona

I choose this shot because it’s one of my most recent works. I’m fascinated by how it’s easy to build this page without any skills of development and design. Anyone can create something in few minutes. I also love to create animated shot for Dribbble, I think it’s easier for developers and other people to understand my design toughts.

Tell us about your setup. What tools did you use to create the shot (e.g. hardware, software, pens, paper, blowtorch)?

image

I use differents tools and software to create my Dribbble shots, and for our clients. First, I create many, many different versions of the UX design. I love this first step of work, it’s so creative. Once it’s approved by the client, I like to use the Slicy app to cut all icons and images in Retina in few seconds. Then I animate everything with After Effects.

Choose a favorite shot from another player. Tell us why you dig it.
